He opted to rename the town Fort Myers in honor of his soon-to-be son-in-law, Abraham C. Myers. In 1853, Marion and Abraham sealed their love in marriage, embarking on a journey that would shape the future of the community that now proudly bore their surname.

2.  Thomas Edison's Winter Haven:

On August 12, 1885, Fort Myers, with its modest population of 349 residents, achieved the milestone of incorporation. At that time, it held the distinction of being the second-largest town on Florida's Gulf Coast south of Cedar Key.

In that same year, the renowned inventor Thomas Alva Edison made a memorable stop in Fort Myers during his travels along Florida's west coast. Captivated by the area's allure, Edison proceeded to purchase 13 acres of land along the picturesque Caloosahatchee River.
