Bokeelia is located in western Lee County at the northern end of Pine Island and is bordered by water on three sides: Pine Island Sound to the west, Charlotte Harbor to the north, and Matlacha Pass to the east. It is a quiet little fishing town offering a laid-back island life style.  Many of the homes are on stilts. Pine Island lies west of Cape Coral and is 17 miles long and 2 miles wide. For many years Pine Island was a major commercial fishing community and many of its full-time residents still fish commercially today.
