St. James City occupies the southern half of Pine Island, with the town center offering an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, art galleries, and marinas. St. James City is Pine Island's most heavily populated area and offers a splendid view of Sanibel Island and the Sanibel Causway. Pine Island is the largest island on the Gulf Coast of Florida and is mostly zoned as agricultural land. Pine Island has no large beach, residents are attracted to the island for its spectacular fishing and boating.
